For Providers:

The Western Carolina Medical Society proudly offers a team of fully trained Certified Application Counselors (CACs) to assist the community with understanding their options under the Affordable Care Act. We understand that the health coverage landscape is rapidly changing, and CACs are available to answer questions about health coverage and provide unbiased assistance in the selection of health coverage. CACs are willing to support our physicians by visiting practices throughout WNC to help enroll patients in health coverage. Please contact CAC@mywcms.org if you are representing a medical practice and would like for a CAC to visit.

 

For Patients:

There are many organizations in WNC offering the services of Certified Application Counselors and/or health insurance Navigators. If you are a community member and would like to find local health coverage assistance in your area, please follow this link to make an appointment with the nearest assister: https://www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector/

Typically you are only able to enroll in or change your health plan during the open enrollment period. To find out when the next open enrollment dates are, please go to: https://www.healthcare.gov/ However, there are special circumstances under which you can enroll in a health plan outside of that time. See the chart below to see if you have experienced any special life circumstance.

 

When Can I Enroll in Health Insurance?

 

Enroll in the Marketplace Anytime Within 60 Days of a Qualifying Life Event…*

  • Lose health coverage
  • Get married
  • Have a baby
  • Adopt or foster a child
  • Get divorced and lose health insurance
  • Death of a household member
  • Move outside your plan’s coverage area
  • Have a change in income
  • Gain citizenship or lawful presence in the U.S.
  • Get released from jail or prison
  • Must Have Legal Presence in the USA in Order to Apply
